“I spent the day at the office: staff conversations, board meetings, then a town hall announcing the best quarter in our company’s 15-year history.

That evening, I drove 90 minutes into the mountains and hiked alone to a summit above the valley. Three hours of effort. A simple meal at the top. Sunset, then the descent in darkness by head torch.

Both parts of the day had asked something of me, but they produced something different. The business demanded strategy, endurance and years of leadership. The mountain demanded physical effort, self-reliance and direct contact with the world in front of me.

I couldn’t stop thinking about why one created a different kind of satisfaction.

I began listening for that distinction in conversations with people whose lives were genuinely full and successful. What I heard was not complaint or crisis. It was the quiet recognition that, somewhere along the way, a successful life and a satisfying one had started to require different things.

I spent the next year designing LINEAGE to explore that gap.”

HAND is practical agency: using judgement, tools and skill to change the material world directly. The outcome exists outside you. It works or it does not, and the feedback is immediate.

PEOPLE

When did a group last genuinely depend on your contribution?


PEOPLE is interdependence: contributing to a small group, accepting help, carrying responsibility, speaking directly and working through friction.

Status cannot substitute for usefulness. How you show up is visible.

SELF

When did you last sit with an empty hour and let it stay empty?


SELF is your capacity to direct your own attention when there is no screen, schedule or audience doing it for you. Stillness, uncertainty and unfilled time reveal what you reach for, what you avoid and what you actually think.
